Who is the Deposit Protection Corporation?
DPC is a statutory body established to administer the Deposit Protection Scheme in Zimbabwe.
Do I need to apply or register for deposit protection?
No. Deposit protection is provided automatically for eligible deposit accounts placed with member institutions.
Can I buy additional deposit protection?
No. Deposit protection is not a general insurance product that depositors buy.
Which products are generally not protected?
Examples include securities, unit trusts, interbank deposits, government deposits, contents of safety deposit boxes, negotiable instruments, and other excluded liabilities or financial instruments.
Are deposits in different branches of one member institution protected separately?
No. Deposits held in different branches of the same member institution are generally aggregated for deposit protection purposes.
What happens to balances above the insured amount?
Any uninsured balance may be paid through the liquidation process on a pro-rata basis, depending on recoveries from the closed institution.
